Please Slow Down

Responding to a call on the highway last week got me thinking... We were with the ambulance for a medical emergency on the side of the highway. There wasn't much room for the ambulance to park off the roadway, so they had to partially block one side of the road. We had a hill and blind corner on both sides of us. Wearing my traffic vest I stood on the east side to slow people down and stop traffic for people coming the other way. A police officer did the same on the other side of the ambulance. The speed limit on this highway is 55, but it isn't uncommon for people to be going 65-70. Luckily, in this case, everybody behaved and nobody was hurt. But some people would not slow down! Despite me waiving my arms and telling them to slow down, they kept going 50 or more right past me standing on the road! I know it may be an inconvenience for you to have to slow down while you pass emergency responders in the roadway, but we put our lives on the line for somebody having a medical emergency. The least people could do is slow down!

My son has a difficult life ahead of him! He may never be able to work or care for himself. He needs me!

So I have a simple favor to ask... if you see a fire truck, ambulance or police car stopped on the side of the road, please slow down and move over if you can.
